Gazing at the horizon just before us, I sensed a whisper at the back of my neck.
"Don't strain your sight too much and you’ll begin to see it.“
Intrigued, I complied..
Slowly, new shapes began to emerge, subtly evolving before our eyes.
8th Island is a collaborative project with Yannis Konstantinos. Inspired by the enigmatic myth of San Borondon, it began during a residency on La Palma. The myth revolves around a legendary island in the Canary archipelago that has intrigued explorers for centuries, often appearing intermittently throughout history but remaining elusive and unproven in existence.
The work stemmed not only from curiosity about a legendary place but also from a deeper urge to explore the unknown and connect intuitively with our surroundings. As our journey unfolded, it transformed into a sacred space for collaborative exploration and artistic expression.
With an experimental approach for the creation of imaginary landscapes through photography and scanography, our exploration extended beyond the time spent in the Canary Islands, embracing the concept of the island as a meditative time frame. Guided by intuition, we navigated through unknown territory, crafting a visual language that broadened our perspectives. The search for the elusive island mirrored our quest to understand and build our personal relationship and the connection to strangeness, guiding us through moments of reflection and discovery.
The "8th Island" emerged as a sanctuary—a place where secrets converged, offering whispered insights into the interconnectedness of the world. It symbolizes our shared journey, showcasing the power of intuition and imagination in shaping our perceptions and expectation of reality and the frameworks we tend to give ourselves.
